Maddy drummed her fingers against the surface of the table roughly. She had barely even finished one subject and she still had more. She was almost glad that she had eaten a big breakfast and lunch. Because the only dinner she had a feeling she would be getting, was a couple chocolate frogs and the remaining sugar quill she was using.
She narrowed her eyes when he spoke. Her hand stopped its rapid movement against the table. Sarcasm. The was that last thing she expected out of the Ravenclaw at the next table. It helped relieve her stress just a bit. It even amused her to hear the words come out of his mouth. The corner of her lips twitched slightly.
"You are mistaken." She frowned in his direction. "You obviously just have sensitive ears." Along with everyone else in the school. She seemed to have the same annoying effect on everyone around here. "Because I didn't slam my book or glare at anyone."
She tried to look busy once more. She was slowly catching on to the routine the two were putting on. One would say something and pretend they didn't say anything. Maybe it was less embarrassing that way. Madison wasn't extremely sure.

Chase was still watching the girl, his smile more evident. Really, it was entertaining to watch, even if the two were receiving dirty looks and snide remarks. Noting to refrain from saying anything too lengthy, Chase awaited her reply. Anyways, if he didn't finish the little work he had left he could always scarf down his dinner. He wouldn't be missed at the party, anyways.
"Right, I'm the one with sensitive ears." Chase couldn't help but grin, looking highly amused. His eyes flickered to the thinning audience of annoyed workers, most seemed to have either finished their work, or they had chosen to leave early for dinner. Chase looked back to Maddy, his head cocking slightly to the side. "Well, someone most have created some sort of spell giving everyone sensitive ears." He murmured as quietly as possible, he still wanted Maddy to hear what he said. Anyways, Chase already blew off his first note.
Lord, Chase was amazed with himself, bewildered at that. It was the most he had spoken in who knew how long, truly. Still, he did get into conversations when they were started. Depending on the subject, of course. He turned back to his work, a slight smirk still planted on his face.

Madison observed the slowly emptying library. The few who were left didn't look too pleased with the noise that was going on. Madison considered herself safe until Madam Pince told her to be quiet. For the second time that day. But she realized when she wasn't actually working, she was quiet. Besides the small conversation she was making with someone she hardly knew.
She cocked an eyebrow at his quiet response. She was almost sure she was meant to hear his quiet response. "Are you trying to imply that I'm loud or something?" She asked. As if she didn't already know that. It was a well known fact, really. Her mood was slightly getting better. She didn't really want to show that his comments were the cause of that. "Because I find that awfully hard to believe."
She laughed quietly to herself, tilting her head downwards. So much for finishing her first homework of the year and getting herself ahead of the game and focused.

Hermione was beginning to write harder as the Hufflepuff got louder. But their quirrelling was driving her nutts.
She quickly interceeded. "Maddy, you're being loud, you were indeed slamming books, now if you two will stop bickering, there are people who are /trying/ to finish papers." She glared at the two of them and went back to scribbling on her paper. She quickly switched from potions to charms, figuring she'd finish potions in the common room tonight, with not much left.
Her stomach rumbled a little, she placed her hand there, it never subsided the rumbling it made her smile it little, holding back a laugh, she held up her wrist, it was almost dinner time. Did she intend to miss it? Or keep here. She thought of the Gryffindor Common Room tonight, she shrugged and decided she'd leave and get dinner halfway through.
She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and got up taking some books in her hand, ones she used for potions that she wouldn't need seeing as she was done with them, and she took out some for reading and charms.
She headed back to the desk quickly looking at the Ravenclaw boy before sitting down, and smiling in his direction, sitting down and continued scrawling words neatly in her curly writing.

Madison jumped when another stern voice spoke her name. For a short second she thought it was Madam Pince. She never called her Maddy, though. Ms. Harper, how many do I have to tell you that people are trying to work? If you're going to disrupt the library, I suggest you leave before you find yourself with detention. She'd only heard the words several time before.
Her mouth opened and then slowly closed. She didn't know what to say this time. Unlike her first warning of being to loud, this was more to the point. "My fault." Her voice was low and her head was ducked in shame. Had she really been talking that loud?
She picked up the abandoned quill and dipped it in her ink. Her mind was milling over the words that had just been spoken. There are people who are trying to finish papers. She turned the page of the book softly. Should she really be as upset as she was? Probably not. It would have been best to push it aside.
She scribbled more nonsense on her parchment. Grabbing the cover of the book and slowly bringing it closed. This time not slamming it and sending things flying. Madison slid out of her seat and quickly into the isle to return to the book. "Transfiguration." She said slowly, pronouncing each syllable. A couple isles over is where she found her next book. She settled back into her seat quietly.

Chase looked bewildered once more as he heard Hermione's voice traveling in his direction, though a low hiss. No, it wasn't the way he pictured Hermione talking to him. He frowned slightly, looking over to the Gryffindor apologetically. "Sorry." he murmured, frowning slightly before looking over to Maddy. "Not entirely your fault." He added reassuringly, then focused back on his work without another word.
He thought it best to finish the little he had left now, who knew how much homework they'd get piled on tomorrow. As he dipped his quill into the bottle of liquid black ink, Chase was surprised he still had any left. It had felt like he had been working for quite some time. Still, he had only really been taking notes, he still had his mountain load of homework due in a few days time.
Shifting to a new sheet of parchment while pushing the old one aside, Chase pulled back out his potions book, preparing for another essay. They had that new potions teacher, Professor Slughorn this year, which Chase was rather thankful for. And while flipping through the pages until he stopped on one about Amorentia potions. He found it quite interesting really, and could imagine the coffee bean/fire/cookie scent wafting from the potion right now.
And before he knew it, he caught sight of Hermione smiling in his direction. Merlin, his heart soared once more, his cheeks blushing a light scarlet. Lord, if only he could actually do something considered cool. No instead, Chases eyes darted back to his work, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Madison sat back in her seat. She was twirling her quill between her thumb and forefinger. She was distractedly trying to balance it. She casually shrugged when she heard his response that it wasn't just her fault. No. Because she already knew it wasn't just her fault. She hadn't been the only one talking.
She pulled the cover of her Transfiguration book open. Her finger skimmed the index until she found just the spell she was looking for. She pages in her book flew past until she was near the end. Her face was inches from the parchment as she scribbled down a couple key facts.
Her lip tugged on her bottom lip. It prevented her from speaking out what she was reading. She was scribbling words in a large sloppy, slanted print. When she was stuck, she'd gently tap her quill on the surface of the table until she overcame that.

Hermione pulled a strand of hair behind her ear, and pulled a blank peice of parchment out of her bag and began to write. "What are you working on? -- H." She folded it and sent it down the table to Chase. She teeth sunk into her bottom lip as she dipped her quill in and began working on her assignment.
She became confused on a part of the essay, something she couldn't find in books, something she'd glanced over during her second or third year, but she couldn't remember what. She sighed, pushing her chair up and getting up to go search for a book.
